Off the back of our successful two week exhibition and programme of events last year, we are putting together a new two week exhibition in early April 2016.
We are looking to recruit a number of people to assist the core team of volunteers with the running and production of the exhibition. There are specific roles on offer, and we are looking for dedicated team members who can take ownership of these tasks. All volunteers should be able to both work well within a team environment, and independently where required.
If you would like to be involved in this exciting project, please reply with a CV and cover note detailing your area/s of interest.
What we can offer our volunteers:
The organisers are not working for profit and receive no public funding, with such a small budget unfortunately we are unable to cover volunteer’s expenses. But we can provide real work experience, references, offer free tea/coffee & biscuits at St Margaret’s House, and a great opportunity to be involved in an exciting two week event. Volunteers will also get the opportunity to make friends and connections, gain valuable practical experience in the production of a multi form art exhibition, and help to promote artists based in Scotland.
We require volunteers to assist in the following areas:
- Social Media and Marketing – Mid February – Mid April
To assist the core team in delivering our marketing strategy via social media and our website. Working under the voice and direction of the collective you will be responsible for creating and delivering content, updating social channels and our website. There is the opportunity for you to build on our existing audience and the real opportunity to come up with new ideas and implement these to extend our project reach. Ideally you will have some experience in this area, this would also suit a marketing student looking to add some practical experience to their CV. Excellent written English skills are essential.
- Print and Design – mid February – April
To work with core team in developing e-flyers and images for social media, web, projection and some print. Working with the core team you will help us develop our visual communications. Applicants must have good Photoshop skills, a flair for design, and be able to produce files ready for publication. We wish to encourage applicants who can build on existing experience, or are looking to gain some practical experience. The successful candidate will have a high level of creative freedom on these projects.
- Hanging and Take Down – 26th March – 2nd April and 17th/18th April
We are looking for a number people to help us hang the exhibition, and take down the show. Ideally you will have experience in this area, however candidates with good practical skills who can work under direction of the curators are very welcome to apply. You will gain experience in hanging and dealing with a variety of works. You do not need to be available during the whole of the hang but ideally need to be able to commit to a whole day (minimum).
- Invigilation – April 2nd – 17th
We are looking for volunteers to assist with invigilating the gallery. Opening hours are likely to be between 10am – 6pm daily, and you will be responsible for dealing with any sales, and payment queries, with full training provided.
- Events Team and Opening Night – March – early April
We are looking for candidates to help run the opening night and our second event evening. We are looking for outgoing and enthusiastic people to assist with performers and artist liaison, co-ordination and communications with performers and team, assist with set up of the events, sound, visuals and the donation bar, and be involved with smooth running of the evening, working with the performance co-ordinators and curators of the show.
- Driving, distribution and logistics – March – Mid April
We require volunteers to assist us with a small but varied number of tasks which may include delivery of equipment, purchasing of equipment and supplies for events, delivery of artworks and other logistical tasks. We are also looking for volunteers to assist the core team with distribution of flyers and posters for the show.
All volunteers would be asked to attend some meetings with the core team in the run up to the project, and have regular communications with them. We are looking for reliable and dependable candidates who can work well within a group setting.
Enthusiasm and commitment is crucial, and we look forward to making lasting partnerships with our volunteers. This is our third exhibition and we aim to produce more.
